Mixtape One - Ballard

Alright y’all, here is the first of what I hope to be many mixtapes. I’m using the awesome Opentape and I’m loving how it’s working so far. These will be up for about a week and then usually replaced with a new one. I hope that doesn’t cause too much confusion. The idea with these is that I’ll be theming them and naming based on places I’ve been, or where I’m at, or places I’d like to go. Or something. I’ll also try and keep the variety high and throw in a few oldies every once in awhile.

Ballard (This mixtape has been retired.)

This one’s for my favorite neighborhood in Seattle.

  • The Enemy – Away From Here. Not sure where I discovered The Enemy, but they’re great. Fans of Pigeon Detectives will probably like ‘em.
  • Panic At The Disco – That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed). Love this track and this album. Sue me.
  • Look See Proof – Local Hero. Kind of like The Futureheads meets We Are Scientists. Great, great stuff.
  • Does It Offend You, Yeah? – Being Bad Feels Pretty Good. One of my favorite albums of the summer, You Have No Idea What Your Getting Yourself Into is the perfect example of the kind of variety I like in an album.
  • Bloc Party – One Month Off. My fav track, so far off the newest Bloc Party joint, intimacy.
  • The Lodger – My Finest Hour. Evokes some of my favorite 90s brit pop. Light, easy and fun.
Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground – Simon Courage Flees The Coop. Saw these guys at Sasquatch Festival and fell in love.
  • The Replacements – Alex Chilton. An oldie but a goodie.
  • Okkervil River – Lost Coastlines. Okkervil River keeps getting better. Catch ‘em live if you get a chance.
  • The Notwist – Good Lies. So glad they’re back.
  • My Brightest Diamond – Inside a Boy. Such a sweet sound.
  • Liam Finn – Better To Be. Liam Finn’s I’ll Be Lightning has been on heavy rotation ever since I saw him at SXSW.
